STEP 1

Obtain My PAL (CFSC)

First step towards obtaining your firearms licence is to complete the mandatory safety training, The Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC).  

 

The CFSC is a 8 hour course plus examination.  $170 plus HST
 

You will learn:

  • Basic firearms safety practices

  • Ammunition types and storage

  • Operating firearm actions

  • Safe handling and carry procedures

  • Responsibilities of the firearms owner/user

  • Safe storage, display, transportation, and handling of firearms

  • Minors who successfully complete the CFSC course can apply for a Minor’s Licence (2)


Prerequisites

  • Under 18 – Parental consent required for minors


Additional Details

  • Students may take the CFSC and CRFSC together as a Back-to-Back course for a discounted rate

  • 100% course attendance is required to complete the test

  • Retests must be taken within 30 days

  • Once you complete the course The Firearms Safety Education Service (FSESO) will issue you proof which will enable you to apply for your PAL (for Non-Restricted firearms such as rifles and shotguns).

 

If you would like to purchase and/or use Restricted firearms such as handguns, proceed to Step 2

STEP 2

Upgrade To RPAL (CRFSC)

 

 To apply for an RPAL you’ll need to complete The CFSC followed by The Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course (CRFSC).

You will learn:

  • Basic firearms safety practices

  • Ammunition types and storage

  • Operating firearm actions

  • Safe handling and carry procedures

  • Responsibilities of the firearms owner/user

  • Safe storage, display, transportation, and handling of firearms

Prerequisites

  • Aged 18+ to apply for PAL with restricted privileges

  • Minors may take the CRFSC course for educational purposes only with parental consent (To apply for a PAL after the age of 18, students must retake the course and pass the written and practical exams)

  • Successful completion of CFSC course

 

Additional Details

  • Students may take the CFSC and CRFSC together as a Back-to-Back course for a discounted rate

  • 100% course attendance is required to complete the test

  • Retests must be taken within 30 days

Restricted within 30 days - 6 hour course plus examination, $130 plus HST

  • 30-Day Upgrade to RPAL (CRFSC).  Designed to be taken back-to-back or within 30-days of your Obtain My PAL (CFSC). We recommend booking this at the same time you book your CFSC.

  • If you have taken your CFSC with YR North and are over your 30 days we will honour the discounted rate if it's within 2 months of your CFSC.

Restricted over 30 days - 6 hour course plus examination, $170 plus HST

  • If you already have a valid PAL and/or it's been over 30 days since you have done your CFSC with another instructor you are to book into the restricted course over 30days.

  • You will need to show you're PAL the morning of the course and/or proof that you have completed the CFSC with another instructor.

STEP 3

Applying for your PAL

 

  1. Once you have completed/passed your CFSC/CRFSC, you will receive a course report by mail from The Firearms Safety Education Service of Ontario in 4-6 weeks.   You will need this paperwork to apply for your licence.
     

  2. Once you receive this paperwork you can now apply for your PAL
     

  3. You’ll need to complete the RCMP application form, we highly recommend you complete this with the new on-line form.
